The Lindsay Clancy Case: When the System and Society Fail Women

The tragic Lindsay Clancy case is one that will undoubtedly go down in the history books. It has left the world completely divided, sparking fierce debates across dinner tables and social media platforms alike. Even AI seems incapable of parsing the sheer complexity and nuance of what happened.

Lindsay Clancy was accused of murdering her three young children. Yet, when you look closely at how this case has been prosecuted, you realise a terrifying reality: so much of the initial narrative was built entirely on one man's word. Patrick Clancy was mere minutes away from the house when the tragedy occurred. The fact that the District Attorney simply ran with his version of events puts us in incredibly dangerous territory.

Worse still is the aggressive, deeply misogynistic backlash we are seeing online. Men who clearly know nothing about the law are threatening lawsuits, while others are actively threatening to kill, rape, and doxx women who dare to support Lindsay. "Justice for Patrick Clancy" pages have surfaced, and any video or comment supporting Lindsay is met with constant, vitriolic threats. I even saw a comment recently where someone proudly stated: “I’m with the group who is helping with the defamation cases. I will forward it on.”

The hypocrisy is utterly insane. Statistics show that men make up the vast majority - over 90% - of family annihilators. Yet, when a woman allegedly does it, despite a mountain of context regarding severe postpartum mental illness & no actual evidence, men suddenly pretend to care about children. Where is this collective outrage when it comes to the everyday reality of:

All of these categories remain predominantly male.

Following the recent mistrial, we received some not-so-shocking news. The lone holdout juror - whom certain groups hailed as a hero for blocking an acquittal - has reportedly been exposed as someone with a history of domestic violence allegations and an active restraining order against him. Who is actually surprised by this?

According to other jury members, this individual refused to follow the law regarding reasonable doubt. He allegedly took the exercise bands used in the crime, wrapped them around a water bottle during deliberations to mimic the actions, and spent his time scrolling on his phone. In my opinion, the jury forewoman should have reported this disturbing behaviour straight away.

Conspiracy theories only happen when there are too many questions and too many holes in a story. (And just an FYI - the word "conspiracy" was famously publicised by the CIA to discredit people who asked too many questions). But how many times do we look back and realise a "conspiracy" was actually the truth?

I don't believe Lindsay was just suffering from postpartum depression or postpartum psychosis. I believe she was being mentally and financially abused by her husband. Patrick earned $400,000 a year, yet Lindsay was constantly sick with worry about money.

While he was away skiing, hiking, sailing, and having brunch in NYC, she was left isolated. Photos of their house showed a dark, gloomy space that looked more like a bachelor pad than a warm home for three children.

He even sacked their nanny - knowing his wife was actively drowning and begging for help. He didn't hire help to support his wife; he hired help to make his own life easier while he worked.

Domestic violence and coercive control take many insidious forms, and emotional and financial abuse are a massive part of that dynamic.

There is nothing more dangerous than a man who wants a new life and wants to avoid paying child support.
