Dope Soul Village: Why the Marketplace Was Always the Plan

women marketplace better than etsy

Dope Soul Village has always been for women.
Run by women. Built with women in mind. Held by feminism at its core.

From the very beginning, I knew I didn’t want DSV to be just a clothing brand. The clothes were never the point - they were a tool. A way to build something bigger. A way to connect women, fund real-world change, and create a space that didn’t ask us to shrink, soften, or explain ourselves.

What I didn’t have, at the time, were the words.

I knew I wanted community.
I knew I wanted women supporting women - economically, emotionally, creatively.
I knew I didn’t believe in gatekeeping, competition culture, or platforms that profit from women while giving very little back.

But I didn’t yet know how to pull all of that together into one clear structure.

And then, over the Christmas period, it clicked.

Not in a loud, dramatic way - but in a quiet, obvious one. The kind where you realise you’ve been circling the same idea for years, just without naming it.

What I had always wanted was a marketplace.

A place where women can buy from other women.
A place where female-led businesses are visible, valued, and supported.
A place where creativity, services, skills, and ideas are shared - not hoarded.

Dope Soul Village was never meant to be about one person selling to many. It was meant to be about many women building something together.

Once that piece fell into place, everything else finally made sense.

The community aspect.
The feminism.
The long-term vision.

They weren’t separate ideas - they were all parts of the same thing.

So now, I’m in full swing, right in the middle of opening the Dope Soul Village Marketplace.

A female-led marketplace where women will be able to:

  • Sell physical products

  • Offer digital products

  • Advertise services

  • Share their work, skills, and creativity

No gatekeeping.
No needing to fit a specific aesthetic or box.
No requirement to justify why you deserve space.

If you’re a woman creating, building, selling, or offering something - there will be room for you here.

This has always been the plan for DSV, even when I didn’t yet have the language for it. And while there’s still work to do, systems to build, and details to finalise, one thing feels very clear now:

Dope Soul Village is becoming what it was always meant to be -
a female-led marketplace, rooted in community, feminism, and collective strength.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing more about the marketplace, how it works, and how you’ll be able to get involved - whether you want to sell, shop, or simply be part of a space built by women, for women.

This is just the beginning.
